Barrie personal injury lawyer Steve Rastin tells Law Times that accident victims are best served by a simple standard-form contingency fee agreement mandated by the Law Society of Upper Canada (LSUC).

Mr. Rastin, a former president of the Ontario Trial Lawyers Association (OTLA), believes that the idea of a simple retainer agreement is a step in the right direction, and urges the province to move quickly to implement the necessary legislative changes to facilitate the proposals made by the law society.

Among the changes he thinks should be effected immediately is the amendment of the flawed Solicitors Act.
