In the criminal matter R v. Jordan last summer, the Supreme Court set strict deadlines for criminal cases to get to trial without the risk of dismissal for delay.

However, Barrie personal injury lawyer Steve Rastin tells AdvocateDaily.com that the confidence of the public in the civil justice system is being threatened by the reaction to this landmark Supreme Court decision.

Mr. Rastin believes that the absence of additional funding is creating a fundamental challenge for civil justice in Ontario. Because of the increased financial burden being brought about by the Supreme Court ruling, clients are settling where they should not, bringing disrepute to the civil justice system.
